On 16 May 2006, Jagex (JAVA GAMING EXPERTS), upgraded the game to its current version (at time of press).
There are many ways to play the game online as well. You can opt to play for free or as a paying member. Players can choose to play RuneScape free (F2P) or to pay for extra content (P2P).
HOW TO GET IN ON THE ACTION: Paying members have more access to quests, items, map area, skills, shortcuts, and mini-games that are not available to F2P players are offered for the fees charged. You can pay by credit card, cheque or money order, charging to telephone bills, and using online cash processors such as PayPal (all available at rates that include additional service fees). A paid membership definitely has its perks! At around $5 US per month, the array of skills for example (agility, fletching, herblore, thieving, slayer and farming skills, weapons like the Dragonspear and more), become yours opening more dimensions of dynamic play.
Combat is an important aspect of RuneScape. Your level of expertise and skill are calculated using the seven combat skills. They are:

§ Defence
§ Hitpoints
§ Magic
§ Prayer
§ Ranged
There are 126 levels of play currently avaialble to you to prgress through.
Combat, battle and fighting plays a very important role in this game. It enables and empowers you to move forward. Through combat this game evolves and progresses/
§ It is one of the best ways to be gaining wealth, in both cash and items.
§ It is required to complete many quests in the game.
§ There are THREE basic combat categories:
- Melee - fighting at close range with or without weapons
- Magic - fighting with magic spells
- Ranged - fighting with projectile weapons
There are NO character classes in this game. You can constantly switch methods, styles, skills, weapons and armor from and across all THREE of the combat categories. Combinations and individual choices are allowed to make the fighting more ‘customized’ and personal if you will.
