Economic Context, Currency, Commodities and Trade in RuneScape

It is a lot like real-life, real-time economies of scale. Comprable to the principle driving our own economy, namely "supply and demand" This drives the price.

In the game the currency is gold pieces, simply called "gp" or "coins". Lots of inflation present and an unlimited supply of coins make it very complex to survive and thrive in! Value drops often, prices fluctuate, and even rise! In the game there are many ways to use to counter inflation.  Barrows, Crystal bows and Player Owned Houses are added to deal with these economic-style ‘pressures’ that arise.

Industry Comments, Criticisms and Player Opinions

Lots of different stakeholder groups have different things to say about the game. Some aspects getting more attention than others.

  • Chat: Filters are in place for offensive language etc.
  • Cheaters: They do exist and occur and measure are taken to stop it constantly.
  • Customer support: Not enough for free players.
  • Free play limitations: Generally the complaint is not enough, not updated often enough
  • Gameplay: Can be made more difficult by repetitive tasks and more levels of complexity than what is really needed.
  • Graphics are not everything. Certainly performance was chosen here as the priority and even if it does not compete or keep up with some of the other genre games, it does not keep it from being highly enjoyable and playable!
  • Speed: Running slowly or lag sometimes occurs due to overloaded servers, traffic and other technology challenges. In this ‘battle’ they are not alone!

In all of these RuneScape is not alone. But for now, let us get on with playing the game and getting the most from your experience playing RuneScape.
